When to Call Your Doctor
Always feel comfortable calling us with any medical question you may have.
If you are not sure whether or not your child’s symptoms warrant a visit, we would be happy to talk through your concerns on the phone and decide the best course of treatment! Conditions that are best evaluated in the office include:
- Severe sore throat (Most sore throats are caused by viral illness, but can also be caused by strep, especially when associated with an abrupt onset with fever, chills, headache, abdominal pain, vomiting, or lethargy)
- Ear pain
- Vomiting or diarrhea that lasts for greater than 3 days (unless the child is not keeping fluids down for greater than 12 hours)
- Rashes
- Abdominal pain
- Cough associated with ongoing fever or signs of breathing difficulties such as chest retractions (seeing your child’s ribs between breaths), nasal flaring, chest pain/tightness
- Burning with urination or blood in urine
- Blood in stool
- Signs of dehydration
- Change in mental status
- This list is not all-inclusive and we welcome any calls to the office if you aren’t sure whether you need an appointment
